Thai Buddhist > Monk Ordination > Photo Album 02

After his hair has been shaved, the young man changes into white clothes and a robe and waits for the main ceremony to begin. Soon, relatives and friends will come together to form a parade. They carry with them the robes for the monk-to-be.

The ordination ceremony is held in the bot. After they arrive here, they parade around the bot three times in a clockwise direction. This is called wien tien. The young man is holding three lotus flowers between his palm and is walking barefoot. In the last picture, you can see an elderly relative, or sometimes a close friend of the family, holding a special large umbrella.

You can watch 1 video clip of the wient tien procession.
