The Baby Buddha Image

There are quite a few Buddha images, however most of them depict him at the same age. This Baby Buddha image, called "pang prasut" in Thai, is relatively rare. It depicts the moment when the Buddha was born and he immediately started walking. I haven't seen one like this before. They only information that I can find says that you will have a prosperous life if you pray in front of it. However, this Baby Buddha image was installed at our school recently for a very different reason. You may remember last month that one of our students committed suicide by jumping from the 6th floor of the school building. The school administrators decided that they would have this image placed in the playground in order to protect the school children. The father of the boy that died was invited to the ceremony attended by monks.

March 6 – 7 Buddha’s Relics in Phuket

A precious collection of sacred relics of the Buddha and many other Buddhist masters arrives in Phuket March 6th and Mar7th. This is a rare opportunity to view these relics, which were found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters. Buddhists believe relics embody the master’s spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom and are deliberately produced by the master at his death. Each visitor has the opportunity to be personally blessed by Relics of the Buddha on their head and visitors often report experiences of inspiration and healing when in the presence of the relics. Hours:10am to 7pm at Karuna Meditation & Yoga Center in Nakatani Village between Kamala and Patong Beaches. Contact: Chris 087 885 8622 or or more information is at www.meditate-Thailand.com.
